the name KWONG HING at bow with canvas.

We arrived at SAM MUN about 19.00 hours and lay

alongside a warship. A Japanese spoke in Punti dialect to

the coxswain. Another two Japanese dressed in Khaki uniform

searched the KWONG HING. They did not ask permission to do

so or even tell the coxswain that his launch was going to be

searched. Nothing was removed.

Before we were allowed to sail away at about 20.30

hours PANG KAM CHIU was forced to sign and thumb print a chit.

We arrived back in Shaukiwan at 02.00 hours on 22.1.40. On

the way back to Hong Kong we took the canvas off the union

jack and the name but did not hoist the British Mercantile

Marine flag at the stern because it was dark. The canvas

we kept on the launch.
